The "Kefaya" Movement Calls Upon the Arab Peoples to Pressure for the

Use of the Oil Weapon

The racist Zionist state is waging an organized, barbaric genocide against Lebanon. It aims to destroy the will for resistance in Lebanon and the region and dragging Lebanon to a condition similar to the "middle ages" as was announced concerning Iraq at the time of the US aggression.

Within this context, Israel has completely exceeded the direct and announced reason it used to justify the war (to bring back its captured soldiers), or the objective Israel announced for the war (to disarm Hizbollah and establish an isolating belt on the Israeli-Lebanese border!). The Zionist state has also exceeded in this dirty war all the prohibited red lines when it targeted and destroyed much of the means for basic life for the Lebanese people. Israel's brutal massacres killed to date hundreds of innocent children and unarmed women amid a suspicious Arab official silence, obvious Arab bias, disgraceful American complicity and humiliating international inability while the Arab peoples' (at the forefront of whom are the Egyptian people) anger increases. Arab peoples feel surrounded, under siege and prevented from supporting the struggling Lebanese people. They feel they can not push their incapable governments, which act as followers or agents, to play any active role in stopping Israeli massacres and putting an end to the continuous war crime committed in Lebanon, preceded by Palestine for continuous months!

The above dictates, from the point of view of "Kefaya" , that the Arab nation uses all available weapons in self defense in the face of this continuous and escalating aggression against the nation's presence, interests, territory and security. The most significant and effective weapon is that of petroleum. Petroleum still moves life worldwide. Secretary General of the League of Arab States Amr Moussa recently expressed the strong and urgent need to use oil in the current battle.

Thus, the "Kefaya" movement calls upon the Egyptian and Arab peoples, as well as all political parties, powers and national and patriotic movements to move intensely to pressure the Arab regimes with the aim of pushing them to adopt an escalating program to use this weapon as follows:

I: In Egypt:

(1)  Immediately suspend all crude oil supply to Israel

(2)  Suspend Israeli government and private participation in the Egyptian Petroleum Authority's bids and tenders.

(3)  Immediately stop supplying Egyptian gas to Israel and calling upon the People's Assembly to refrain from approving any relevant agreements.

(4)  Call upon the General Petroleum Syndicate and loading workers in Egyptian ports to refrain from loading or unloading Israeli tankers or tankers that carry petroleum or its products to Israel and the Zionist machine of aggression.

(5)  Call upon officials at the Midor refinery in Sidi Krir to suspend all dealings with Israeli companies with relation to purchasing the refinery's oil products.

II: In the Arab World:

(1)  Exert pressure to encourage Arab oil-producing countries, such as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Libya, Algeria, the UAE, etc., to announce a program to gradually reduce oil exports by 5% per week until a cease fire is reached, the aggression stopped, the Israeli forces withdrawn from South Lebanon and prisoners are exchanged.

(2)  Motivate Arab oil producing countries within OPEC to encourage all the organization's members to participate in the above-mentioned measure (1).

While I do not wish to

While I do not wish to minimize your efforts to see some change (even if minor) occurring on the socio-political landscape of this once great nation, I do believe that all your efforts will go in vain. Maintaining the same failed strategies in an attempt to make any internal change only perpetuate a sense of failure and inevitability. New and radical thinking needs to be injected in the movement. Personal comforts need to be scarified. I believe that the current regime has left the people no choice but nonviolent civil disobedience on all levels with respect to the individual’s relationship vis-à-vis any and all governmental bodies. The magic word is of course nonviolent. It does us no good to go into demonstration and start yelling and beating each other. A silent rally with thousands of red roses thrown on the internal police may be much more powerful. I hope this country wakes up soon – else the neocons project of the new century will soon consume us all.
